Lady Bobcats named MACJC Academic Team of the Year; four other JCJC teams recognized

ELLISVILLE – Five Jones County Junior College athletic teams have been recognized for academic excellence.

The JCJC women's soccer team has been named MACJC Academic Team of the Year in that sport.

Head coach Dolores Deasley's team had a 3.47 team GPA, which tied them for fourth nationally and also earned them NJCAA Academic Honorable Mention Team of the Year honors.

Lady Bobcat soccer players Carmin Childs (Oak Grove), Aimee Durn (Watford, England), Erica Gaddie (West Lauderdale) and Anna Brice Taylor (Sacred Heart) each had 4.0 GPAs.

Four other Bobcat teams also earned NJCAA Academic Honorable Mention Team of the Year honors.

The Lady Bobcat tennis team had a 3.70 GPA, which was second in the MACJC and third in the NJCAA. Sisters Ariadna Jordan (Spain) and Mieria Jordan each had 4.0 GPAs on the women's tennis team.

The Bobcat baseball team had a 3.31 GPA, which was fourth in the MACJC and tied for 14th nationally. Payton Harris (Oak Grove), Luke Hudson (Presbyterian Christian School) and brothers Ryne Sasser (South Jones) and Steven Sasser all had 4.0 GPAs

The national champion Lady Bobcat softball team had a 3.35 GPA, which was seventh in the state and 45th in the nation. Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy), Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) and sisters Breanna Hasty (Germantown) and Natilyn Hasty all had 4.0 GPAs.

The Bobcat men's tennis team had a 3.15 GPA, which was sixth in the MACJC and 18th nationally. Connor Henderson (Petal) had a 4.0 GPA on the men's tennis team.
