Eagles Win Pitcher's Duel 3-2 over BPCC

STERLINGTON, LA - The Hinds Community College Eagles baseball program defeated the Bossier Parish Community College Cavaliers 3-2 last night (March 6) in a nine-inning pitcher's duel.

Freshman right-hander Harrison Haley (Madison) drew the start on the mound for the Eagles and held the Division I National Junior College Athletic Association's (NJCAA) No. 2 ranked offense at bay for five innings. The Cavaliers came into the game batting .379 as a team.

Haley finished with a final line of five innings pitched, four hits allowed, one run allowed (unearned), and had four strikeouts. Haley left the ball game with a 2-1 lead earning him his third victory of the season (3-0).

Josh Banes (Learned) pitched four outstanding innings in relief to earn his first save of the season and give the Eagles their fifth straight win. In Banes' four innings, he allowed just two hits, one run (unearned) and struck out two batters. Banes needed just forty-four pitches to close the door for Hinds.

At the plate for the Eagles, John Bolton (Memphis) and Jovante Dorris (Raymond) led the way with two hits apiece. Dorris got the Eagles on the board in the bottom of the first inning with an RBI double. Bossier Parish knotted the game up at one in the top of the second inning before Hinds' freshman shortstop Colby Collier (Clinton) singled in a run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Connor Carter (Madison) drove in the eventual game deciding run on a fielder choice in the bottom of the sixth.

The Eagles improve to 8-3 on the season and will be back in action this Friday, March 8 on the road when they take on Baton Rouge Community College (6-16) in a double header in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Game one is scheduled as a nine-inning ball game with a start time of 12 p.m. with a seven-inning ball game to follow approximately thirty minutes after the conclusion of game one.
