POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River freshman Leif Moore (Biloxi) has been named MACJC Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. The honor comes after Moore partnered with Reid Golemon (Moselle; South Jones) to throw a seven-inning no hitter at Nunez. The duo's combined no hitter came on the heels of a complete game no hitter from Cade Hodges (Brookhaven; Loyd Star).
Moore earned the weekly honor after striking out a whopping 16 batters in six innings without allowing a hit or surrendering a walk.
To say Moore has had a strong start to his collegiate career wouldn't do him justice. In 10 scoreless innings, Moore has struck out 22 while allowing just one hit. Moore is also 2-0 on the season.
Moore's 19.80 strikeouts-per-nine ranks second in then NJCAA's second division.
Pearl River is back in action Saturday when the Wildcats visit Northwest Florida State College for a 1 p.m. first pitch. The doubleheader begins a three-series road trip that includes a DH at Spring Hill JV on March 11 and the MACJC opener at Northeast on March 14.
The Wildcats return to The Dub on March 18 when PRCC hosts Copiah-Lincoln for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
