ELLISVILLE – A pair of Jones College football players have been honored by the MACJC.
Quarterback Stetson Bennett (Blackshear, Georgia) is the Offensive Player of the Week and placekicker Cristofer Thompson (Adams County Christian School) is the Special Teams Player of the Week.
Bennett, a redshirt freshman transfer from the University of Georgia, was 19-of-27 through the air for 314 yards, three touchdowns and one interception as he led the No. 6 Bobcats to a 36-34 victory over No. 5 Northwest in the MACJC semifinals.
Bennett also rushed six times for 65 yards to account for 379 yards of total offense.
For the season, Bennett is 120-of-209 for 1,492 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Thompson was a major factor in last week's victory.
He was 3-for-3 on field goals, including kicks of 50, 44 and 20 yards, and was 3-of-3 on extra points. Of his eight kickoffs, four went for touchbacks.
For the season, Thompson is 9-of-13 on field goals and 42-of-45 on extra points for a total of 69 points. That ties him for first in scoring by kickers in the MACJC and ties for fifth nationally.
Bennett, Thompson and the Bobcats will play for the MACJC championship this weekend.
The Bobcats host No. 1 East Mississippi at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The game will air on www.jcjc.tvand the Jones College Facebook Live page with Mark Easley and Luke Johnson on the call.
