MS Gulf Coast golfers win national honors

PLYMOUTH, Ind. — Mississippi Gulf Coast took home a bunch of awards at the banquet before the NJCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship at Swan Lake Golf Resort.


Brice Wilkinson (So., Madison Central/Madison) was named to the PING All-American First Team for the second year by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He won four tournaments, including a sweep of the MACJC and NJCAA District D championships, and finished in the top five nine times.


Jon Hopkins (Fr., Hockerill Anglo-European College/Bishop's Stortford, England) and Jake Crosson (Fr., New Hope/Columbus) were named to the Second Team. Hopkins won three events and was runner-up two other times. Crosson made four All-Tournament teams and finished second at the District D Tournament.


Those three golfers were joined on the PING All-East Region team by Carter Nicholson (So., Pearl River Central/Carriere). He had six top-10 finishes.


Crosson and Hopkins were named to the NJCAA Division II All-Freshman Team.


Gulf Coast coach Tommy Snell is a finalist for the NJCAA Division II Dave Williams Award presented by Golf Pride Grips. The Bulldogs won nine tournaments this year, sweeping every MACJC event and the district tournament. He won the award last year, when Gulf Coast won its first team national championship.


Gulf Coast tees off at 9:06 a.m. ET on Tuesday in the first round of the championship. The 72-hole tournament will conclude on Friday.
