ELLISVILLE – The Jones College Bobcats posted another solid victory here Monday night at A.B. Howard Gymnasium.
Jones placed six players in double figures as they rolled to a 114-69 victory over CMP Prep.
The game was tied at 9-9 about eight minutes deep before Galen Alexander (Breaux Bridge, Alexander) scored to give Jones the lead for good. A dunk by Shardarrion Allen (Raymond) and a 3-pointer by Winceton Edwards (Oak Grove) closed the half and helped the Bobcats take a 47-26 lead at the break.
The Bobcats led 59-33 early in the second half and 85-50 at the halfway point as they cruised to the win.
Kenneth Rogers (Starkville) led Jones with 18 points. Edwards added 14, Allen and Alexander had 13 each and Casey Smith Jr. (Columbus) finished with 12. Michael Williams Jr. (Rayville, Louisiana) had 10 points.
Zachariah Malone (Shady Grove, Louisiana) and Sayveon Bumpers (Quitman) each had eight points, David Gaines Jr. (Wayne County) had six, David McCoy (Meridian) had four, Jeffery Lewis (Madison-Ridgeland Academy) and Ladarius Anderson (Jackson Provine) had three points each and Larry Griffin (Natchez) had two.
Malone had nine rebounds. Alexander and Gaines had five boards each and McCoy dished out eight assists.
The Bobcats outrebounded CMP Prep, 40-24.
Jones was 44-of-84 from the floor (13-of-31 from 3-point range) for 52 percent. The Bobcats were 13-of-20 from the free throw line.
DeQuan Weatherspoon had 20 points for CMP Prep.
The Bobcats, 2-0, will face a tough assignment on Thursday as they travel to meet No. 13 Holmes. Tipoff is at 8 p.m.
