Hinds Bulldogs Take Down Meridian 67-64

UTICA – The Hinds Community College Bulldogs defeated the Meridian Community College Eagles Thursday evening (Feb. 7) 67-64 and took over sole possession of fourth place in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC) South Division.

The Bulldogs jumped out to 40-35 advantage at the half over the Meridian Eagles on the back of a 10 point first half scoring performance by Dontrell McQuarter.

The Bulldogs and Eagles traded leads at the start of the second half before the Bulldogs took a 10-point advantage over the Eagles with less than 10 minutes remaining in the ballgame.

Meridian then fought their way back into the game and cut the Bulldogs lead to just one-point (63-62) with under 1:57 left in regulation.

The Hinds defense would hold strong, however, as the Eagles scored just two point the remainder of the game to sealing the 67-64 victory for the Bulldogs. 

Stephane Ayangma had another terrific performance as he connected on seven of his nine shots from the field. He also went five for seven from the charity stripe to finish with a total of 19 points scored. The electric Ayangma is amongst the nation's leader in field goal percentage as his 68.1% ranks 12th in the National Junior College Athletic Association.  Ayangma added 11 rebounds as well to secure his ninth double-double of the season.

Additionally, Dontrell McQuarter posted his third double-double on the season as he scored 15 points and hauled in 12 rebounds. Anthony Johnson rounded out the Bulldogs in double figures tallying 11 points of his own.

The Bulldogs (11-8, 4-6) will take on the No. 7 ranked Wildcats of Pearl River (18-1, 9-1) on the road in Poplarville on Monday, February 11. Tip-off for the MACJC South Division match-up is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
