MARSHALL, MO. — The Pearl River rodeo team got off to a rocky start in their fall season debut this past weekend at Missouri Valley Colleges rodeo event.

The team only had three competitors place well in the event.

"It's not the start we wanted," said PRCC coach Robby Shaw. "This is a marathon though, it's not a race and we have nine more rodeos to compete in. We're going to practice a little harder and try to fix a couple of the small things that we need to work on."

While the team struggled in its debut there were some bright spots the team will try to build momentum on.

Gracie Langston (Foxworth; Penn Foster Academy) placed 50th out of 107 competitors in barrel racing with a time of 14.94.

Rayne Royals (Purvis) and Caly Hayworth (Ponder, Texas) also placed 53rd and 68th respectively with times of 15.05 and 15.75.

The team returns to action Thursday when they compete in the University of West Alabama rodeo competition over the weekend.
