MERIDIAN, Miss.— The Pearl River rodeo team participated in its first rodeo competition under the direction of new head coach Frank Graves Jr. this past weekend.

The team traveled to Meridian to compete in East Mississippi's rodeo competition.

Kaleigh Graham (Petal) was the only contestant who placed earning 11th in the first round of the barrel racing competition.

Graves took away a few learning points from the team's first outing.

"Well we had two kids in the breakaway late in the barrier so we were out-run there, " Graves said. "We need to work on getting a better start. We have a couple of kids that need to get faster."
