ELLISVILLE – The 6th-ranked Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats rolled past Baton Rouge Community College (Louisiana) twice here Friday afternoon at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.
In game one, JCJC scored seven runs on just one hit in the first inning and went on to an 11-1, five-inning victory. In game two, Callie Venable (Clinton, Louisiana) homered and singled twice to spark Jones to an 8-2 decision.
JCJC, 37-3, resumes MACJC South Division play with a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Southwest on Wednesday.
BRCC, 7-21, hosts Bossier Parrish Community College (Louisiana) on Monday.
Lady Bobcats 11, Lady Bears 1
JCJC took control early in game one.
Kelsha Loftin (Mendenhall) was hit by a pitch to start the game. Taylor Murray (Parkline Academy) and Emily Robinson (Lafayette) then walked to load the bases. Venable then reached on an error, which allowed two runs to score, and Hallie Donald (Mooreville) walked to load the bases again. McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) then walked to force in a run. Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) then reached on another error, which allowed two runs to score and make it 5-0.
After a strikeout, Sarah Brock (North Pike) followed with the inning's only hit – an RBI single to left. Loftin then drew a walk and Robinson's ground out scored another run to make it 7-0.
Donald led off the second with a double and Sikes reached on a single. Denton followed with a double and Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) walked. Loftin reached on an infield hit, which drove in a run. Murray then delivered a two-run single to make it 10-0 and Robinson followed with an RBI single.
BRCC's only run came in the fifth inning when Emily Hart and Heather Gardner singled and Hallie Autin followed with an RBI single.
Karli Perque (Westwego, Louisiana) went the distance and got the win. Perque, 14-2, allowed one run five hits, walked one and struck out five.
Denton doubled and singled for Jones. Brock had two singles with Donald getting a double. Murray, Robinson and Sikes had singles.
Autin, Sara Tate, Tarynn McNabb, Hart and Gardner singled for BRCC.
Renee Firmin pitched to the first five JCJC batters, did not record an out and took the loss. She gave up five runs (four earned), no hits, walked three and hit one. Sydnee McCall came on after that, pitched three innings, allowed six runs (four earned), eight hits, walked four and struck out three. Hart pitched an inning, allowed no runs, one hit and walked two.

In the bottom of the first, Loftin singled and Venable smashed a two-run home run to center to give Jones a 2-0 lead.
BRCC tied it in the fourth when Shelby McDonald reached on an error and scored on a triple to right by Cori Breaux. A ground out by Shelby Breaux scored Cori Breaux to make it 2-2.
JCJC regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth. Venable led off with a single, Sikes singled and Angel Guyton (Smithville) walked to load the bases. Bailey Gilbert (Sylva-Bay Academy) reached on an error, which allowed Venable to score. Simone McKinney's (Harrison Central) infield single drove in Sikes to make it 4-2.
The Lady Bobcats increased the lead to 7-2 in the fifth.
Venable led off with a single, Sikes doubled to left and Guyton followed with a two-run double to right-center. Gilbert followed with an RBI single.
JCJC's final run came in the sixth when McCleskey singled, stole second, went to third on McKinney's ground out and scored on Loftin's ground out.
Sikes started, went 3.2 innings, allowed two runs (none earned), two hits, walked one and struck out four. Donald went the final 3.1 innings and got the win. Donald, 11-0, allowed no runs and one hit. She retired 10 of the 11 batters she faced.
In addition to Venable's big day, Sikes doubled and singled, while Guyton double. Loftin, Gilbert, McCleskey and McKinney added singles.
Shelby Breaux went the distance and got the loss. She pitched six innings, allowed eight runs (six earned), 10 hits, walked one and struck out two.
Cori Breaux tripled for BRCC, while Autin and Sara Tate singled.
