Pearl River softball announces loaded slate for Wildcat Invitational

POPLARVILLE – The start of the 2019 softball season is just under a month away. With the season rapidly approaching, Pearl River coach Leigh White has announced a challenging slate for the team's annual Wildcat Invitational. The five-team competition on Feb. 8-9 includes Marion Military, Baton Rouge, LSU-Eunice, MACJC rival Gulf Coast and the Lady Wildcats. The Invitational will serve as PRCC's home opener.

"We have some good teams coming in and it's always great to play in our own stadium," White said. "This will be a good opportunity to see how we stack up against quality opponents.

"These early tournaments will show us exactly where we are at."

Baton Rouge and Marion Military open the Invitational at noon on Feb. 8, followed by PRCC and Marion at 2 p.m., Baton Rouge and LSU-Eunice at 4 p.m. and the Lady Wildcats vs. LSU-Eunice at 6 p.m.

There will be five games Feb. 9: Marion vs. Gulf Coast at 10 a.m., Marion vs. LSU-Eunice at noon, Gulf Coast vs. LSU-Eunice at 2 p.m. and a PRCC-Baton Rouge doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.

Each game will be seven innings with a run rule.

Pearl River opens the 2019 season Feb. 2 at the Pensacola State Invitational. The Lady Wildcats will play Roane State at 3 p.m. followed by the host school at 5 p.m. PRCC will open MACJC action March 8. at Itawamba.
