No. 1 Lady Bobcats post two shutouts over No. 12 Lansing (MI)

ELLISVILLE – Top-rated Jones College had a good Saturday night at Community Bank Park/Gwen Magee Field.

Hallie Donald (Mooreville) tossed a two-hit shutout to pace the Lady Bobcats to an 8-0, five inning win over No. 12 Lansing (Michigan) in game one. In game two, Marley Peagler (Brandon) and Lauren Stringer (Taylorsville) combined on a three-hit shutout and Raven Blackwell (St. Patrick) and LP Trammell (Germantown) blasted home runs as the Lady Bobcats blanked the Stars, 9-0 in five innings.

Jones, 8-2 and winners of seven straight, will open MACJC play with a 3 p.m. Wednesday doubleheader at Holmes.

Lansing, 4-3, plays at East Central on Monday.

Jones took control with a five-run first inning.

Trammell and Raven Blackwell led off with walks and Kayla Collins (East Central) reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases.

McKennah Sikes (Van Buren, Arkansas) drove in a run with a fielder's choice and Faith Denton (Northwest Rankin) followed with a two-run single. Donald followed with an RBI double and Rebekah DiLavore (Ocala, Florida) made it 5-0 with another fielder's choice.

The Lady Bobcats ended the scoring in the third inning.

Sikes walked, Denton doubled and Donald walked to load the bases. Raylen Blackwell (St. Patrick) lined a two-run single to left and Trammell's sacrifice fly to right drove in courtesy runner Carlee Nations (Enterprise-Lincoln).

Donald gave up back-to-back singles to Kylee Taylor and Taylor Hulett to start the second inning, but retired the final 12 batters she faced. She allowed no runs, two hits, walked one and struck out seven as she improved to 5-0.

Denton doubled and singled, Collins and Donald each doubled and Trammell and Raylen Blackwell each singled for the Lady Bobcats.

Hulett pitched four innings and took the loss. She allowed eight runs, six hits, walked seven and struck out two.

Raven Blackwell got the Lady Bobcats on the board with a solo home run in the first inning.

In the second inning, Gracie McCleskey (Caledonia) and Mollie Singleterry (Wayne County) walked and Trammell followed with a three-run home to center. Raven Blackwell then doubled to left and scored when Sikes reached on an error to make it 5-0.

The Lady Bobcats made it 6-0 in the sixth when McCleskey walked, stole second and third and scored on a Trammell double.

In the fourth, Denton singled and Hailey Weems (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) was hit by a pitch. McCleskey reached on an error, which allowed courtesy runners Carlee Nations and Shelbie Phillips (Mooreville) to score. After Singleterry walked, Trammell drove in her fifth run of the game with a single to center.

Peagler went the first three innings and got the win. She allowed three hits, walked one and struck out one. Stringer pitched the final two innings, allowed no hits and struck out four.

Trammell homered, doubled, singled and drove in five runs. Blackwell homered and doubled and Denton and Collins added singles.

Rebecca Curtis, McKenna Musser and Tyler Adkins singled for Lansing.

Musser took the loss. She pitched four innings, allowed nine runs (seven earned), seven hits, walked eight and struck out four.

Lansing falls to 4-3 on the season.
