POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River head softball coach Christie Meeks has announced the hires of Hannah Sparks and Kourtney LeBlanc as her assistant coaches for the 2020 season.
"I think bringing in Hannah and Kourtney adds fire to our program," Meeks said.
Meeks was very clear that she wanted her assistants to meet a certain criteria.
"One of the things I looked for in my assistants was that they were great people," Meeks said. "I think that's important because we have to lead these girls and lead them the right way. The second thing was to get coaches in here who know a lot about hitting and speed on the bases."
Sparks will be the hitting coach and recruiting coordinator for the Wildcats.
"Hannah is a type of person who the girls can really relate to," Meeks said. "She's gone from the JUCO level to playing at a four-year school on a national stage."
Sparks comes to PRCC after one season as a graduate assistant at Lee University in Tennessee.
Before she began her coaching career, Sparks played catcher for two years at national power Oklahoma, helping the Sooners claim the Big XII Championship in 2017 and 2018 and a Women's College World Series National Championship in 2017
Sparks graduated from OU with a Bachelor's Degree in Arts in December of 2018.
Prior to playing at Oklahoma, Sparks played her first two years of college softball at Northwest Florida State College.
Sparks was a second team All-American in 2016 after batting .401 with 16 home runs her sophomore year.
Sparks graduated from Thomasville High School (Ala.) in 2014.
"I think coming from a junior college and then making that transition to a Division I school gives me that knowledge that can help prepare our players," Sparks said.
LeBlanc will be the speed and conditioning coach and camp coordinator for the Wildcats.
"Kourtney is a fast slapper type of coach," Meeks said. "She's going to help us increase our speed and our ability to get on base. She's also extremely organized."
LeBlanc just finished up her college softball career at Louisiana College where she played shortstop and held an impressive career fielding percentage of .919.
While at LC, LeBlanc was on the Academic All-Conference team three years and was also a NFCA Academic All-American.
She graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Biology in 2019.
LeBlanc graduated from Central Lafourche High School (La.) in 2015 where she was a standout shortstop on the softball team earning All-District, All-Regional and All-State honors.
"I'm very excited about being here at this program and this community," LeBlanc said. "I think I can really help the girls in a number of areas."
