LAUREL – A field of 26 teams (104 players) was on hand for the Second annual Jones College Softball Golf Tournament here on Sept. 13 at Dixie Golf Club.
The team of Dennis Sikes, Steven Sikes, Ricky Mason and Shane Weems won the tournament with a 52. There were three flights with the top three teams in each flight claiming prizes.
The tournament is a fund-raiser for the JC softball team to go to Las Vegas, Nevada on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 and participate in the College of Southern Nevada Leadoff Classic.
Jones head coach Chris Robinson was very pleased with the tournament.
"We had a tremendous turnout for our second annual golf tournament fundraiser," he said. "We cannot thank each participant and sponsor of our event enough. The funds raised will help pay for our trip to the College of Southern Nevada's Leadoff Classic in Las Vegas. We are excited to take our players out west to play against some of the best competition in the country.
"What an experience it will be for Jones College softball. A special thanks to Dixie Golf Club and (club professional) Rich Fulkerson for allowing us to have the event there."
Tournament sponsors this year were BancorpSouth, Chancellor's Inc., Coca-Cola, Community Bank, Hattiesburg Clinic, Howard Industries, Jones County Professional Drugs, Laurel Eye Clinic, South Central Regional Medical Center, Southern Tire Mar, The First and Wallace Drugs.
