Pearl River volleyball inks four standouts in second signing class

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — On the heels of Pearl River's first volleyball season, head coach Haley Chatham has inked her second class.

Members of PRCC's 2020 signing class include Vancleave setter Paige Davis, Lewisburg right side hitter Avery Beth Durdin, Vancleave middle blocker Payton McKerchie and St. Martin outside hitter Chloe Paske.

"I am thrilled to be able to bring on these standout athletes who are among the best in the state at the high school level," Chatham said. "The River is definitely Rising."

Alongside McKerchie, Davis helped lead Vancleave to a 39-4 overall record and a third straight MHSAA State Championship. ranks Davis' Bulldogs at No. 3 in the state.

Davis finished her senior season with 262 assists, 90 digs and 64 service aces.

"Paige will bring a ton of consistency to our offense. She reached over 2,000 assists during her high school career," Chatham said. "Her volleyball IQ is off the charts. Bringing Paige in is definitely going to help us run a more dynamic offense."

Durdin was a versatile star for LHS, recording 227 kills, 36 blocks and 60 digs.

"Avery Beth is a lefty who spent most of her career playing right side but she also has experience on defense and setting," Chatham said. "She has a great court presence and brings a ton of excitement to the game. She will be a key player in helping us gain more consistency and I think she will raise the energy level on the court."

Like Davis, McKerchie was instrumental in Vancleave's third straight MHSAA. The middle blocker racked up 221 kills, 58 aces, 64 blocks, 230 digs and 36 assists.

"Payton spent her high school career being an offensive standout," Chatham said. "She is a middle hitter, however, she is very versatile and will be able to hit the pins when we need her to. She is a consistent and powerful hitter who also brings defensive experience, being a six-rotation player."

Chatham anticipates Paske playing an integral role in the 2020 Wildcats.

"Chloe is a powerful, quick outside hitter who possesses a ton of athleticism," Chatham said. "I expect her to come to the team and be a playmaker at the net for us. She also brings a great sense of team which is an absolute must for success."
