Pearl River volleyball adds DS from nationally-ranked program

POPLARVILLE, Miss. — Pearl River volleyball coach Haley Chatham announced Tuesday the addition of junior college transfer Amy Wright.

The defensive specialist joins PRCC after spending the 2019 season at the College of Central Florida.

"Adding Amy to our roster is a win for PRCC volleyball and a win for her," Chatham said. "She needed a place to play after her school eliminated volleyball last winter and we needed to add depth to our defensive backcourt. She is a well-trained player who brings quality experience and we are excited to have her on our court this season."

Wright joined PRCC's squad after the College of Central Florida shuttered its program during the winter.

During her freshman campaign, the 5-foot-5 Palm Bay, Florida, native appeared in 25 matches for the No. 9 Patriots. In total, Wright registered 33 digs and 11 aces with two assists while CCF built an impressive 21-6 record.

Chatham expects Wright to split time between libero and defensive specialist at The River.

Prior to playing at the College of Central Florida, Wright prepped at Melbourne Central Catholic.

Wright is the second transfer to join the Wildcats after Diamond Jones (Gonzales, Louisiana) signed with PRCC following her freshman campaign at Wallace State.

The two sophomores join an incoming class that already includes Paige Davis (Vancleave), Avery Beth Durdin (Lewisburg), Payton McKerchie (Vancleave) and Chloe Paske (St. Martin).

The Wildcats made history in 2019 as they were the first junior college volleyball program in Mississippi. PRCC played teams from Florida, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi while posting a nine-win debut season.
