Southwest Mississippi Community College women’s basketball assistant coach Chi Mitchell has been named the head coach at Cisco College (Cisco, TX). In her only season in Summit, Mitchell helped head coach Brent Harris guide the Lady Bears to a 14-10 record, a third-place finish in the MACJC South Division and a spot in the state tournament.
Mitchell, a native of Tyler, TX, said she was “very thankful for the opportunity of working with the faculty and staff at Southwest” and that while she has been here she has “gained a lot of knowledge both on and off the court, from my boss and former coach Brent Harris that I will take with me for the rest of my life.” She said her new job “is a huge opportunity that I am blessed to have been given. It’s a step closer toward my career goals.”
Harris said “I have some serious mixed emotions (about Mitchell’s leaving). On one hand, I am sad to lose a great assistant. But, I am very happy for Chi and her career.”
“We accomplished a lot this year,” Harris continued, “and Chi was a big part of that success. Success leads to opportunities and we wish her all the best with her new opportunity.”
